Why Stockport semis keep us busy
The interwar semis of the Heatons, Cheadle, Edgeley and Offerton were wired generously for their day, then rewired once, somewhere around 1975. That rewire usually came with a Wylex rewireable box under the stairs, and fifty years later it is still there, with no RCD protection and a shower circuit added in the 90s on its own switchfuse.
Closer in, the older terraces around the Underbanks and Portwood carry the same cellar-head arrangements as Salford, while the newer estates towards Bramhall and Hazel Grove tend to have 1980s and 90s plastic boards, which pass fewer EICRs every year now that inspectors expect metal enclosures and RCBO protection.
