What an unsatisfactory EICR actually means

The inspector found at least one fault serious enough that the installation cannot be signed off as safe. Each fault has a code, and the codes tell you everything about urgency.

C1 Danger present
Someone could be injured right now Exposed live parts, for example. The inspector will usually make it safe on the spot, but the proper fix still has to follow immediately.
C2 Potentially dangerous
Fails the report, must be fixed Not hurting anyone today, but it could under fault conditions. Missing bonding, no RCD protection and damaged boards land here.
C3 Improvement recommended
Worth doing, not required C3s do not fail a report. If someone is quoting you to fix C3s “to pass”, ask them to point at the regulation. There is not one.

The process

How we close a failed report out

  1. 1 Send report and photos The observations page of your EICR plus three photos of the board. Upload or WhatsApp them.
  2. 2 Line-by-line fixed quote Every C1 and C2 priced against the report. C3s quoted separately, clearly optional.
  3. 3 One remedial visit Board, bonding and tails sorted together. Usually within a week of your go-ahead.
  4. 4 Certification to close it EIC or Minor Works Certificate covering the remedials, ready for your agent, buyer or council.
