Straight swap, same spot on the wall

The board that came out was still on the old red and black wiring colours, which dates it to before 2004, and had picked up breakers from three different makers over the years. It came out, the new unit went back in the same position, and the only thing the customer had to redecorate around was nothing at all. The label on the front is the six-monthly RCD test reminder, which is the bit people forget exists.

Every circuit on its own RCBO, every way labelled

Fourteen ways, an RCBO on each one, surge protection on the end and a 100A main switch. An RCBO per circuit is the bit worth paying for: when something trips, one circuit goes off instead of half the house, and you can see which one it was without a torch. The schedule is filled in by hand before we leave, because a board nobody can read is a board nobody can safely work on. The third photo is the separate RCD enclosure feeding the outbuilding.

Two boards, one property, nothing shared

Some houses have more circuits than one board can take. Rather than cram them or leave a second-rate sub-board hanging off the first, this one got a pair of boards with a proper split, an RCBO on every way in both. The dressing is not for the photo. Conductors run to length and combed into the bars means the next electrician can trace a circuit in seconds, and terminals stay tight because nothing is under strain.

These are boards we have actually fitted, photographed on the day. We are not putting a price against each one, because the number depends on your circuits and your earthing rather than on somebody else's house.
