What adds cost, and why

Four things can sit on top of the package price. Your three photos tell us about the first three before we arrive, which is why our price is fixed and some quotes you get elsewhere are not.

Earthing upgrade + £80 to £160
Older houses sometimes have an earth connection that no longer meets standard. A new board must not go on inadequate earthing, so we upgrade it first. Your earthing photo tells us this in advance.
New meter tails + £60 to £120
The thick cables between the meter and the board must be 25mm to current standards. Thin or perished tails get replaced while the power is already off. Your tails photo shows us the size.
Main protective bonding + £80 to £150
BS 7671 requires a 10mm earth connection to your incoming gas and water pipes. Many pre-1990 houses are missing one or both. It is a legal requirement of the certificate, not an upsell.
Circuit remedials Priced per fault
If a circuit fails dead testing on the day, we show you the reading, explain what it feeds and price the fix separately. You decide. Most houses need nothing.

Why do quotes for the same job vary so much?

Because cheap quotes often describe a different job. A £300 quote that excludes main protective bonding to the gas and water, new meter tails and the certificate is not cheaper; it is incomplete. Those items get added on the day, when you are least able to say no.

When you compare quotes, ask three questions: is the enclosure metal, is there an RCBO on every circuit, and is the Electrical Installation Certificate with Part P notification included? If any answer is no, add money to that quote before comparing it to ours.

Estimate your bracket in 30 seconds

Four questions. The bracket appears without giving us any details.

How many circuits (fuses or switches)?
What is there now?
Any RCD protection (a Test button)?
Roughly when was the house built?

Answer all four and your price bracket appears here. No details needed to see it.
