How much does a fuse box replacement cost in Worsley?
Prices are fixed: £449 up to 6 circuits, £549 up to 10, £695 for 11 or more. Little Hulton and Walkden semis are usually £449 or £549. Detached Boothstown and Ellenbrook houses, especially with a charger planned, tend to need the £695 EV-ready board. Earthing, meter tails and bonding are extras, priced from your three photos.
How a price is built →Four places, four eras of board
Boothstown and Ellenbrook are mostly detached and semi-detached estate houses from the 80s and 90s, with garages, driveways and a plastic dual-RCD board in the garage or under the stairs. Walkden mixes 1930s semis with newer infill. Little Hulton is largely a post-war overspill estate, now a mix of social housing and owner-occupied homes, and Worsley village itself is older still, around the Green and the Bridgewater Canal. Your three photos tell us which of those you are dealing with.
The dual-RCD boards are the ones we replace most often here. They were a step up in their day, but one RCD covers half the house, so a single fault can trip the kitchen, the freezer and the upstairs sockets together. Inspectors now also code their plastic enclosures. A metal board with an RCBO on every circuit means a fault only ever takes out its own circuit. That is the whole case for the upgrade.
Driveways, chargers and the garage board
Most Boothstown and Ellenbrook houses have off-road parking, which makes them natural EV homes, and a charger survey is now a common reason we are called. The installer needs a spare way rated for a 32A or 40A circuit, and a full dual-RCD board rarely has one. We fit an EV-ready consumer unit with that capacity, and your installer connects the charger to it afterwards. It is the order most charger installers ask for.
Many of these houses also keep the meter and board in the integral garage. Garages are cold and sometimes damp, and a plastic board there ages faster than one indoors. We mount the new metal unit in the same position unless your photos show a problem, and label the spare ways so the charger circuit has an obvious home. It is a small detail that saves the charger installer time on their visit.

Not in itself. Plenty of Boothstown and Ellenbrook houses have the meter and board in the garage. We check in your photos that the position is dry and reachable, and a metal enclosure is better suited to a cold garage than the plastic one it replaces.
Often, yes. That is the classic symptom of a dual-RCD board, where one RCD protects several circuits. We find the faulty circuit during testing, and on the new board each circuit has its own RCBO, so any future fault only affects that circuit. If the fault itself needs a repair, it is priced before we do it.
Not necessarily. If it is a metal board with RCD or RCBO protection it may have years left. If it is plastic with one or two RCDs, an EICR will likely code it. Send the three photos and an electrician will tell you which it is, with a fixed price if it needs doing.
