How much does a fuse box replacement cost in Stockport?
£449 up to 6 circuits, £549 up to 10 and £695 for 11 or more, fixed from three photos. The typical Stockport 1930s semi is the £549 package; bigger Bramhall and Marple houses with extensions reach £695. Older boxes sometimes need an earthing upgrade, £80 to £160, which we price in advance.
How a price is built →Why Stockport semis keep us busy
The interwar semis of the Heatons, Cheadle, Edgeley and Offerton were wired generously for their day, then rewired once, somewhere around 1975. That rewire usually came with a Wylex rewireable box under the stairs, and fifty years later it is still there, with no RCD protection and a shower circuit added in the 90s on its own switchfuse.
Closer in, the older terraces around the Underbanks and Portwood carry the same cellar-head arrangements as Salford, while the newer estates towards Bramhall and Hazel Grove tend to have 1980s and 90s plastic boards, which pass fewer EICRs every year now that inspectors expect metal enclosures and RCBO protection.
The Stockport towns, one by one
Each of the borough’s main towns has its own page because each brings a different job. The Heatons have big Victorian and Edwardian houses alongside the semis, many split into flats or extended into the loft. Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme mix interwar semis with 1960s and 70s detached estates. Bramhall is larger detached homes with garages, prime territory for EV chargers. Marple’s stone cottages by the canal are where earthing needs the closest look, and Hazel Grove runs along the A6 with long rows of semis and 1970s estates.
Reddish, Brinnington and Adswood add terraces and council-built estates where landlords make up a good share of our work, and the consumer unit question usually arrives with an EICR. On the owner-occupied side, the steady triggers are a new kitchen with an induction hob, a bigger electric shower, or a driveway charger the old board has no room for. Each is one visit, four to six hours without power, and the certificate handed over before we leave.

Usually not. Most Stockport semis were rewired in the 70s and the cables test fine; only the box was left behind. We test every circuit on the day before the new board goes live.
That is one of our most common Stockport jobs. Fixed price from photos the same day, fitted and certified within the week, with the Electrical Installation Certificate your solicitor needs.
