How much does a fuse box replacement cost in Horwich?
Horwich fuse board replacements are fixed at £449 up to 6 circuits, £549 up to 10 and £695 for 11 or more. The railway terraces are usually £449, the larger semis towards Lostock £549 or £695. Earthing, meter tails or bonding are the only extras, and they are priced from your three photos before you book.
How a price is built →The loco works terraces
From the 1880s the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway built its works here and a town to go with it: rows of solid brick terraces for the men who worked there. They went up before domestic electricity, so the wiring came later and the board with it, usually a rewireable box under the stairs or in a cupboard by the front door. Many were updated once and then left alone, so the boards are older than a lot of their owners.
These houses were well built and the later wiring usually tests well, so the fix is the board rather than a rewire. What we study in the photos is the meter position and the tails, which were often moved when the supply was renewed, and the bonding to the gas and water pipes, which older installations sometimes lack. Both are priced clearly up front, from your photos, if they are needed.
New builds on the old works site, and the semis in between
The new estates on the former works land already have modern consumer units, so the job there is different. It usually comes up when an owner wants an EV charger or a bigger shower and finds the builder’s board has no spare way, or when a plastic board from one of the earlier phases needs upgrading. We fit a metal board with capacity for a 32A or 40A circuit, and the charger installer connects to it afterwards.
Between the two sit the interwar and post-war semis of Lostock, Wallsuches and the roads up towards Rivington, which follow the Bolton pattern: a 70s rewire, an under-stairs Wylex, a shower on its own switchfuse. Horwich is at the western edge of our area, so jobs here are grouped into set days, usually later the same week, with the same fixed price and no travel charge.

Our WhatsApp is run by SB Electrical Group, the team behind Fuse Box Fitters.
Yes, when there is a reason. If the existing board is full or cannot take a dedicated charger circuit, we replace it with an EV-ready one with spare 32A and 40A ways. Your photos show us what is there and whether it is worth doing.
It usually means main protective bonding is missing, which older installations often lack and EICRs code. We add it at £80 to £150, priced from your photos before you book, and it is tested and recorded on the certificate along with the new board.
It is one of the most common things we see in Horwich photos. Tails that have been extended or run a long way can be undersized or poorly supported. If they need replacing it costs £60 to £120, and it goes on the quote before you book.
