How much is a consumer unit replacement in Heywood?
Three fixed prices, set from your photos: £449 for up to 6 circuits, £549 for up to 10, £695 for 11 or more. Heywood terraces are usually £449, Darnhill and newer estate semis £549. Swapping a dual-RCD board rarely needs extras, though earthing, tails or bonding are priced in advance if your photos show a need.
How a price is built →Why half the house goes dark
A dual-RCD board, fitted in most homes built or rewired from the 90s onwards, splits the circuits into two groups, each behind one RCD. When a single appliance develops a fault, the RCD trips and every circuit in that group goes with it, often the kitchen, the fridge-freezer and half the lighting at once. Heywood’s newer estates, including the housing that has gone up towards the M62, carry a lot of them, and so do older homes that were upgraded around the same time.
Then there is Darnhill, built after the war as an overspill estate for Manchester families. Many of its houses have since been bought and modernised, and the boards range from council-fitted 1980s units with no RCD at all to a dual-RCD board from a later refit. Nearer the town centre, the brick terraces carry older boards again, sometimes a rewireable box in the hallway with the meter in a cupboard beside it.
The fix, and how Heywood compares
The fix is a board with an RCBO on every circuit, so a fault on the kettle trips the kettle’s circuit and nothing else. Every package we fit works this way, with a metal enclosure and surge protection included. On the day we test each circuit before it goes onto the new board, which often shows where the trips have been coming from; if a circuit fails, we price that fault before doing anything about it.
Heywood sits between Bury and Rochdale but has its own mix. Middleton, to the south, has more post-war council-built stock, and Rochdale town has more rented terraces, while Heywood has a bigger share of newer private housing. That is why nuisance tripping, rather than a failed EICR, is such a common reason people here get in touch. Heywood is on our Rochdale borough round, with no travel charge.

It will stop one fault taking out half the house, because each circuit gets its own RCBO. It may also show where the fault is, since we test every circuit on the day. If a circuit fails testing, we price that fault separately and agree it with you before any work.
Often it does not need one for safety. Boards on newer estates are usually dual-RCD designs, which work but trip in groups. People replace them to stop that, or because they want spare ways for an EV charger or a bigger shower that the existing board cannot take.
Often, yes. We group jobs across the Rochdale borough, so Heywood bookings frequently share a day with Castleton, Middleton or Rochdale. It keeps travel down, there is no travel charge either way, and your date is usually later the same week.
